From the Mayor’s Desk
New Mayor’s plan for 2009
By Mayor Jane P. Kennedy
Special to the Times
I’m pleased to be serving as your Mayor again this year as there are many things happening in Campbell. In 2009, we will have a continued focus on the city’s budget and fiscal situation. The operating and capital budgets will be tight due to the economy, even with Measure O’s new revenue which will start in the middle of the year. Meanwhile, we’re looking forward to some important projects to maintain, improve or preserve the city, such as:
Continue to explore and implement options for green policies, education and practices; begin design of a new park on Union Avenue; update the City’s Technology Master Plan; finalize improvement plans for the Orchard City Banquet Hall; move forward with East Campbell Avenue public improvements and public art, as envisioned in the adopted Master Plan; expect to adopt a Winchester Boulevard Master Plan that outlines a vision for public and private development standards; form an Underground Utility District on Winchester Boulevard; review and provide direction on issues related to alcohol consumption in the downtown as they relate to new businesses and festivals; continue to work on, and adopt, an updated Housing Element; and explore options for improving Hacienda Avenue’s street condition.
I look forward to serving as your Mayor this year and hope you and your family has a happy and prosperous New Year!
