In honor of Glaucoma Awareness Month taking place in January 2009, EyeCare America, a public service program of the Foundation of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, encourages those without insurance to take advantage of its national Glaucoma EyeCare Program. The program offers free glaucoma eye exams for those who are uninsured and considered to be at increased risk for glaucoma. To find out if they are eligible to receive a referral for an eye exam, those interested should call 1-800-391-EYES (3937). New Police Chief announced

Capt. Greg Finch (right) has been appointed as Campbell’s next Police Chief, City Manager Dan Rich announced in December. Finch replaces Dave Gullo, who is retiring in February after 13 years as chief and 29 with the department.

“Greg is exactly what we need at this point in Campbell’s history,” said Rich. “I have been watching Greg for the past three years and have been uniformly impressed by his depth of knowledge, his breadth of experience, as well as his commitment to this organization and community. The more I talked to Greg, it became clear to me that it would be a waste to do a national search when the best person was already right here.”

The city of Campbell and the Police Department in particular, will experience significant changes in the coming years with numerous retirements and ongoing fiscal constraints. “Greg knows the organization better than anyone and I am confident he can effectively move the department forward,” said Rich. “I welcome the opportunity to work more closely with Greg as a key member of the city’s Executive Team.”

Finch, in accepting the position, noted “I feel privileged to work for such a great organization, community, and department,” said Finch. “I look forward to the opportunity and recognize the commitment and hard work that the previous chiefs’ have done to establish a well respected police department. It is truly an honor to be selected and I am excited to take on my new responsibilities as chief.”

Finch began his career with the Campbell Police Department as an officer in February 1987 and was promoted to Sergeant in May 1996. He was appointed Captain in December 2006.

Finch, who received his BA from San Jose State University, was born and raised in San Jose, where he lives with his wife Tonie and three daughters.
