Nashville folk-singer Kate Campbell will be performing at Joint Venture Churches, 6581 Camden Avenue, as part of the Almaden Adventures in the Arts concert series. Campbell has performed in numerous folk music festivals around the country and has been featured on National Public Radio’s “Morning Edition, All Things Considered” and “Live from Mountain Stage.” Tickets are $15 for adults and $8 for students. The Tabard Theatre Company presents “The Taffetas,” where harmony and crinoline take center stage in this jog down memory lane. Set in Muncie, Indiana, in the 1950’s, “The Taffetas” (reminiscent of “Forever Plaid”) follows the ambitions of four musical sisters determined to end up on The Ed Sullivan Show. This fun, lively musical review of ‘50s hits will be presented at two venues: From January 28 through February 5 at Joint Venture Churches, and from February 11 through February 26 at Bella Mia restaurant. Experience the magic of a bygone era as the San Jose Repertory presents Matthew Barber’s “Enchanted April.” This Tony nominated adaptation of the Elizabeth von Arnim novel follows the journey of four unacquainted Englishwomen who decide to share the cost of renting an Italian castle, and embark on a journey that will change each of their lives forever. Directed by John McCluggage, this romantic comedy will transport the audience back to the magical world of 1920’s-era Italy. American Musical Theater of San Jose presents Michael Bennet’s dazzling masterpiece “A Chorus Line” at the Center for the Performing Arts in downtown San Jose. Winner of nine Tony Award and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, “A Chorus Line” has enchanted more than six million people during its 15 year run on Broadway, and is now slated for its first-ever Broadway revival in the Fall of 2006. Follow the stories of 18 hopeful dancers auditioning for eight chorus parts in a snapshot of the fierce desires and crippling fears that performers face during the audition process. This AMTSJ performance is directed and choreographed by Kay Cole, who originated the role of “Maggie” on Broadway. Love & Chaos Revisited: A Valentine Art Exhibition & Silent Auction Over 50 artists celebrate and decry the notion of Valentine’s Day in a wide variety of 2 and 3D media at the Alameda Artworks, 1068 The Alameda in San Jose. The reception and auction will beheld on Sat, Feb. 12, doors open at 5 p.m. . Bidding begins at 5:30-7p.m. This event is free and open to the public, with no registration fee required to bid on artwork. Successful bidders may take their art “valentines” home at the end of the auction. Artwork will be in 12”x12” format and easy to carry. Food and beverages will be served at the Auction Reception. The Carl Wakeland Trio, a local jazz band, will provide music on the evening of the auction. The Exhibit runs from February 8 - 12, Gallery hours are Tue-Fri, 11am to 8pm; Sat, 12-7pm.

Join the Friends of Guadalupe River Park & Gardens for a fun afternoon learning how to identify local birds, nests and eggs. Craft activities will include building your own bird’s nest using natural materials and making a bird nesting material bag to take home and hang in your yard. Children’s Musical Theater’s Rising Stars presents “The Boyfriend” at the Montgomery Theater in San Jose from February 24 – 27. Set in the roaring 20’s, against the backdrop of the French Riviera, The Boyfriend tells the story of a vacationing girls’ school heiress who falls in love with a delivery boy and must hide her identity for true love. This CMT production is directed and choreographed by artist-in-residence Shannon Self, with vocal and musical direction by Tony Asaro. The St. Christopher Ladies Guild will be hosting its 35th Annual Antique Show in Healy Hall of St. Christopher Church, 2278 Booksin Avenue in San Jose. The San Francisco Zoo presents it’s 16th Annual Valentine’s Day Sex Tours – Guests will embark on a 60-minute narrative tour led by the Zoo’s animal staff where they’ll learn about the mating and courtship behaviors of many zoo animals. After the tour enjoy “romantic refreshments” including champagne, chocolates and a mashed potato bar with all the condiments. Before you throw away all the flowers you got for Valentine’s Day, learn how to get composting and put those flowers to use making soil amendment for your garden with the Friends of Guadalupe River Park & Gardens and Master Composter, Phil Cornish! Phil will cover items such as: what can be composted, the various composting methods available, and what to do with finished compost. He will also discuss worm composting and help you choose which method works best for you.
