Tandoori Oven opens its doors

(From left) Campbell Chamber of Commerce President Carl San Miguel, Tandoori Oven owners (and new members to the Chamber of Commerce) Mani Kadir, Nick Goddard and Melissa Bailey, Campbell Mayor Jane Kennedy, Pruneyard Senior Property Manager Laura Hernandez, and Keller Williams Real Estate Specialist Debra Schwartz get ready to cut the ribbon on Jan. 20.

Dubbed as a North Indian Bistro, Tandoori Oven opened its doors in October, 2004 in the Pruneyard. For owners Mani Kadir, Nick Goddard and Melissa Bailey, this is the second Tandoori Oven location the group has opened, with the first location opening in Los Gatos in October, 2003. Goddard said this would not be the last Tandoori Oven he and his partners plan to open.

“We have a Bay-Area-wide expansion plan and Campbell was a premiere location, particularly being in the Pruneyard,” Goddard said.

Goddard said his ownership group has plans to open more Tandoori Oven locations in downtown San Jose in spring, 2005, Redwood City by the end of 2005, while also looking at possible locations in Palo Alto Burlingame, Santa Cruz and San Francisco.

All of the restaurant’s meat and bread is cooked in a Tandoor, a wood-fired, clay oven imported from India. Goddard added that his restaurant prides itself on making all of their dishes and breads from scratch. In fact, the restaurant doesn’t even have a freezer in its kitchen.

For Coffee Society Founder Ralph Flynn, the Coffee Society location in the Pruneyard is his third, with two other Coffee Society locations in Cupertino.

“I love the business and I love coffee,” Flynn said. “So I’m pleased to be in Campbell and to accommodate the community.”

Unique men’s workout facility opens

The Blitz, a 20-minute circuit training workout for men, will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony as new members to the Campbell Chamber of Commerce on Feb. 17 at 5:30 p.m.

The Blitz offers a unique workout for men packed into 20 minutes in which members alternate between hydrolic cylinder workout machines that offer up to 500 pounds of resistance, and 80-pound punching bags for a combination of strength and cardio training. The entire circuit is set up in a giant boxing ring and a bell will sound every 30 seconds for members, telling them when to switch machines. Owner Phil Lopez opened The Blitz location on Dec. 6 at 785 W. Hamilton Ave., located next to Curves, appropriately enough.
