Update on East Campbell Avenue
By Mayor Donald R. Burr
Special to the Times
I would like to take this opportunity to provide you with an update on the East Campbell Avenue Improvement project.
The Public Works Department hosted another community meeting last month at city hall for residents and business and property owners regarding the project to solicit input on improvement components to be included in the East Campbell Avenue Master Plan. The Master Plan, which was adopted by the City Council in May 2007, was developed to serve as a policy document establishing guidelines and policies for private and public improvements.
A variety of grant funds will be used to support this project. Major sources include [$1.2 million from Community Design and Transportation, $1 million from the Valley Transportation Agency and $750,000 from the Redevelopment Agency.
The East Campbell Avenue Improvement project will contain as many of the proposed Master Plan improvements as physically and financially feasible. A preliminary list of project components includes:
- Campbell Avenue/Railway Avenue/Civic Center intersection modification
- Campbell Avenue Bridge over Los Gatos Creek widening
- Highway 17 Underpass improvements
The construction contract is anticipated to be awarded later this year.
Please monitor the city Web site, CityofCampbell.com, for more information about this project or call Public Works at (408) 866-2150.
I hope you have a wonderful Valentines Day. I know I’ll be spending my holiday with my special sweetheart, my wife, Darlene.
