Cohn holds Emergency Preparedness Fair

Assembly woman Rebecca Cohn held an Emergency Preparedness Fair for citizens of Santa Clara County on Saturday, Feb. 25 so that residents in Willow Glen, Cambrian Park and Campbell could learn what to do in the even of a flood, earthquake or other disaster.

At least 100 people attended from throughout Santa Clara County. Also present were representatives from County Supervisor Jim Beall’s office, CHP and Citizens Emergency Response Team.

More than 100 people showed up to listen to informal sessions on flood, fire, earthquake and disaster safety as well as emergency communication. In addition, representatives from the Santa Clara Valley Water District, the county’s fire and sheriff’s departments, CHP as well as Valley Medical Center, Red Cross and the Silicon Valley Humane Society manned booths and talked to people about making emergency preparations.

Gloria Webster Brown attended because she is organizing disaster preparedness for about 50 people in her San Jose neighborhood. “I’m getting a lot of the information I need from the Citizen’s Emergency Response Team,” she said.

Kim Burgstron, also from San Jose, attended the air to find out what resources were available for her personally and also because she is in charge of disaster preparedness for Manpower, the company she works for.

The presentations lasted about 10 minutes and after that guests wandered from table to table to learn what the various agencies offered.

Assembly woman Cohn has also scheduled a couple of other fairs; there will be a Health Fair on April 1 at the Camden Community Center, and a Child Safety Resource Fair at Pomeroy Elementary School in Santa Clara on March 18.
