The Vasona Vibrations Summer Music Series kicks off its sixth season with free music in the park every Saturday evening from 5 – 7 pm through the end of July. The South Bay Folks organization is again this year co-sponsoring the Vasona Vibrations Concert Series. The free concerts are held on the outdoor stage near the boat dock area. Chairs are provided on a first come-first served basis. Concert-goers may bring lawn chairs or blankets and stretch out under the trees to enjoy a picnic dinner during the concert. Alcohol is permitted for picnickers in the concert area. Kicking off the series are the 10th Avenue Band on June 7, followed by Blah Blah Woof Woof (acoustic Americana) on June 14. Juneteenth in the Park Festival: The Juneteenth in the Park Festival is a cultural event that recognizes the emancipation of slaves in the United States in 1863. Although the festival is celebrated annually in more than 200 cities across the country, San Jose is the host to the largest celebration in the nation. Most classes are from 9 a.m. to noon and are designed for children aged 5 – 7. The cost is $30. The Nature Navigators session is for children age 7 – 10 and runs from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. the fee is $40. Children’s Musical Theater celebrates 40th anniversary with free party in the park: CMT will host a free “Party in the Park” from 5 – 7 p.m. at the Plaza de Cesar Chavez in downtown San Jose. Open to anyone and everyone, this event includes performances by CMT members, a sneak preview of the 2008/09 CMT season, multi media entertainment, children’s games and an enormous cake to feed the expected 3000 people attending the event.

YSI Summer Science Camp. Youth Science Institute has week-long, half-day camps for children ages 3 ½ to 6th grade. Everyone is welcome and YSI Family Members receive priority registration. There are 30 camps to choose from, including Bugology, Radical Reptiles, Phunky Physics, and Water is Wonderful. Children enjoy the wonders of science while connecting with nature through hands-on projects, experiments, crafts, hikes and games. Camp fees range from $140 to $240 per week. Camps start the week of June 16th and run through Aug. 15th at each of YSI’s Science and Nature Centers, located at Alum Rock Park in San Jose, Sanborn Park in Saratoga and Vasona Park in Los Gatos. Friends of Guadalupe River Park and Gardens Summer Walking Series: Get fit in the beautiful setting of Guadalupe River Park’s paved trails! Whether you are an avid walker or new to a walking program, you will learn about proper equipment, walking technique, stretching and beneficial strength exercises for walkers while meeting others who enjoy walking. Instructor Kristin Strellis will lead this 8-week Saturday series along with weekly emails of encouragement and walking tips. Session times are 8:30 – 9:30 a.m. Fees are $30/members and $40/non-members. Pre-registration is required and participants must be 18 years of age or older. Almaden Valley Counseling Service presents the Cooperative Parenting and Divorce course ”How to Parent as a Team when you are No Longer a Couple.” Cooperative Parenting classes are for parents who are either divorced or in the process of divorcing. The class focuses on reducing parental conflict and addresses the factors that influence children’s post-divorce adjustment. This 7-week course will be held from 7:15 – 9:15 p.m. at 6529 Crown Blvd., Suite D, in San Jose. The cost is $145 and is limited to one parent from a co-parenting family. Jewish Family Services of Silicon Valley (JFS) will host the first ever Silicon Valley Duck Race at Vasona Lake County Park, 333 Blossom Hill Road in Los Gatos. A festival filled with entertainment, food and games will kick-off the event, followed by the duck race where 10,000 individually numbered rubber ducks will pour from a dump truck into a creek at Vasona Lake County Park and race into Vasona Lake. The top twenty winners of the race will have the opportunity to win one of several great prizes, including the chance to win $1,000,000. Proceeds from the Duck Race will benefit JFS and other local non-profits. The Willow Glen Chapter of Society Dog announces weekly walks. These free walks happen every Thursday evening at 6:30 p.m. We meet at the Public Parking Lot across from the Willow Glen Elementary School (near Minnesota and Lincoln) and walks are followed by "Yappy Hour" at a dog-friendly restaurant.
