American Musical Theatre of San Jose Presents “Movin Out!” Five-time Grammy winner Billy Joel and legendary Director/Choreographer Twyla Tharp have joined forces to create the most spectacular new musical experience to hit Broadway in over a decade. Enjoy a different musician, singer or artist every week at Vasona Lake County Park’s “Vasona Vibrations” Outdoor Music Series. Shows run from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and attendees should meet on the Ranger office lawn. Participants can bring a picnic dinner or enjoy the park’s concessions. Bethel Church, 1201 S. Winchester Blvd presents “Celebrate America – I Pledge My Allegiance” Featuring The Voices of Bethel (our 100-voice choir) and The Bethel Orchestra, Multimedia and Audience Participation. Performance times are 7 p.m. on 6/25 and 10 a.m. on 6/26. Admission is free, general seating. Doors will open approximately one hour before each performance. The Mormon Tabernacle Choir will be in concert at the HP Pavilion in San Jose at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available at The Pavilion box office and Beehive Bookstore (377-9452) 1977 Wyrick Ave in San Jose. Sanborn County Park, 16055 Sanborn Road, hosts a Habitat Hike with park staff from noon to 1:30 p.m. The two-mile hike takes nature enthusiasts on an exploration of the park’s plant and tree life. San Jose Repertory Theatre presents Avner the Eccentric in “Exceptions to Gravity.” This wonderful family show features Avner, an indescribable one-man disaster who will make you smile with his unique brand of humor. The Children’s Discovery Museum celebrates the joy and diversity of American music in this hands-on, ears-on exhibit created by the Boston Children’s Museum in partnership with the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Get down with different musical styles from classical to country, hip-hop to rock. Step up to the podium and lead The Boston Pops symphony, jam with cool cats in a “jazz club” or become a hip-hop DJ and play percussion on a “city street.” Front a big band or strum guitars on a country music bus tour. This fun exhibit includes video interviews with famous musicians ranging from Yo-Yo Ma to James Taylor to provide real-life stories from a musician’s life. Museum Hours: Tuesday through Saturday: 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. and Sunday: noon 5:00 p.m. Beginning June 20 and throughout the summer: open Mondays 10:00 a.m. 5:00 p.m.

FIFTY PLUS
Ongoing:
AARP Information Center needs volunteers to staff their office. Duties include helping seniors find various services and programs, and providing information on senior needs. The office is located at 840 Willow Street, Suite 300, at the corner of Bird and Willow Streets on bus route #25. The hours are Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. For more information, call 278-1855.
The Geriatric Advisory Program is a service providing documented analysis, advice and resources to those caring for aging family members and is available through the Almaden Valley Counseling Service. Sliding scale fees available. 975-2988.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
Ongoing:
Sacred Heart Community Service needs teen or adult volunteers to tutor children grades 4 through 8 in mathematics, reading and computer skills, as well as accompanying students on weekly field trips at the Academic Summer Day Camp program. Tutors must be at least high school juniors and 16 years old. Adults and college students are welcome. High school sophomores may join with a recommendation letter from their high school principal. MISCELLANEOUS
June 11 – Saturday
Willow Glen’s St. Francis Church, 1205 Pine Avenue will stage a huge, parish-wide rummage sale. Parishioners will be bringing special collectables, furniture, jewelry, books and otherwise great bargains to sell to the community. Local artists will sell handmade items. Also, the Ladies Guild will hold a bake sale with delectable treats Sale hours are 8 a.m. – 1 p.m. For more information call 292-7090, or visit www.stfrancisepiscopalchurch.org. African Photo Safari - the public is invited to a slide/talk, “African Photo Safari, “at 7:30 p.m. by Kristin Sullivan, a biology and ecology instructor at De Anza College. This event is sponsored by the Guadalupe Group of Sierra Club. The presentation will be in the Community Room of the Saratoga Library, on Saratoga Ave. at Fruitvale Ave. in Saratoga. June 16 – Thursday
Sit back and relax with the Friends of Guadalupe River Park & Gardens as they lead you on an adventure to explore three premier wineries - Benziger Family Winery, Matanzas Creek Winery and Kendall-Jackson Wine Center – (and their gardens) on a late spring tour to the wine country. The focus of the visit will be to discover these unique gardens, but there will be time to do some wine tasting along the way for those who are interested. The bus will leave the Guadalupe Garden Center, located at 715 Spring Street in San Jose, bright and early at 8:00 am and return by 7:00 pm. The price of the trip is $80.00 for Friends’ members and $85.00 for non-members. This includes docent lead tours of Matanzas Creek and Kendall-Jackson, the tram tour at Benziger, lunch and transportation. The trip will be filled on a first come, first served basis and refunds will only be made if there is a waiting list. The San Jose Jaycees Car Wash is taking place at the Shell Gas Station on 1103 Curtner Avenue in San Jose from 9a.m. to 5 p.m. The San Jose Jaycees raise money to run projects and better serve your community. The Jaycees are best known for the Mervyn’s Christmas Shopping Spree for Underprivileged Children. Everyone is welcome to come out and support this community organization.
