West Valley Post 99 elects Garcia commander, selects other officers

Campbell resident Jim Garcia has been elected next Commander of West Valley Post 99, The American Legion, in May 12 balloting.

Also elected were Ralph Borrego of San José, first vice commander; Lee Turcotte of Campbell, second vice commander; and Ron Hruby of Campbell, third vice commander. The local Legionnaires also picked Lance Beizer of Campbell to be judge advocate; Bob Slevin of San José as sergeant-at-arms; and Carlo Pedron of San José as service officer. Elected to the Post 99 executive board were Dan Cook of San José; William Curran of Saratoga, John Firenze of Los Gatos, Glen Furlong of Campbell and Larry Spencer of San José. Campbell’s Ken Blair and Mike Glazzy of San José were elected to the Post 99 Building Board Company.

The incoming slate of officers and directors will be installed in a June ceremony at the Post Hall, 1344 Dell Ave., Campbell.

“Our Post has just completed a challenging year, topped off with the completion of a two-year remodeling project that utilized considerable volunteer labor from among the Post membership,” Garcia said. “With the election of a new slate of officers, our members, veterans all, now have the opportunity to enjoy the fruit of that labor.”

West Valley Memory Post 99, an all-volunteer organization, has 746 members, most of them residing in the Silicon Valley/South Bay Area. Congress chartered The American Legion in 1919 as a patriotic, mutual-help and wartime veterans’ organization. A community service organization that now numbers nearly three million members—men and women—in nearly 15,000 American Legion Posts worldwide, these posts are organized into 55 departments—one each for the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, France, Mexico and the Philippines.
