One School at a Time (OSAAT) presents “Ganga-Kaveri” one of the most sought after ensembles of musicians from India, performing at the CET Theater, 701 Vine Street in San Jose from 5:30 – 8:30 p.m. This performance offers a rich fusion of Indian folk, devotional and jazz music by Vidwan Anoor Ananth Krishna Sharma (Mridangam), Vidwan M.K. American Musical Theatre San Jose presents the National Tour of the blockbusting hit Broadway musical, “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.” This lively comedic romp plays at the San Jose Center for the Performing Arts and is based on the successful 1988 MGM film about two con men extraordinaire that live it up large on the French Riviera. This production stars Tony-nominated actor Tom Hewitt and D.B. Bonds and reunites director Jack O’Brien and choreographer Jerry Mitchell - the creative team behind the Tony-nominated “The Full Monty.” Tickets are $13.75 - $73. Family Fitness in the Park - Co-sponsored by Kaiser Permanente San Jose and Friends of Guadalupe River Park and Gardens. Spend quality active time together as a family. Led by Instructor Kristin Strellis, this fun and family oriented fitness class will include stretching and fun games to increase health. Classes include a Healthy Start Kit for kids, pedometers and other healthy living material and videos from Kaiser Permanente San Jose. Session cost is $25.00 per family of 4 (must include at least one child 5-16 years old; additional family members are $5 per person) this activity is appropriate for ages 5 years and older, family participation required. Pre-registration is required. All classes will begin at the Guadalupe River Park and Gardens Visitor & Education Center located at 438 Coleman Avenue in San Jose. Create your own one-of-a-kind Mother’s Day Cards. Guadalupe River Park & Gardens will provide the dried rose petals, glue and other materials needed to make mom a card she’ll cherish forever. Participants will also get to select a rose for mom from the 3,700 varieties blooming in the Heritage Rose Garden! Workshop is from 9:30 a.m. – noon. Fees are $5 members/$10 non-members. It’s Scout-O-Rama! From Pine Wood Derby (bring your own car) and water rocket derbies to Monkey Bridges and Merit Badge Exploratoriums, there is something for everyone at the Scout’s largest fair. Located at History Park in Kelley Park, 1650 Senter Road in San Jose, Over 50 Cub Scout packs, Boy Scout troops, Venture crews have volunteered to host interactive, hands-on “booths.” Event hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. rain or shine. Calling all airplane enthusiasts! Friends of Guadalupe River Parks and Gardens Challenges you to “Name that Plane” in their after school workshop on Plane Spotting. Learn how to identify aircraft and make a spotting journal to record your sightings. We will explore the basic physics of flight and take a closer look at the engineering that allows planes to fly. Design your own paper airplanes and test them at our unique location near the flight path of San Jose International Airport. Hours are 3:30 – 5:30 p.m. geared for ages 5 -10 years. Mark your calendar for an event like no other – Monsters making music! Elmo, Zoe, Big Bird and all their Sesame Street friends are taking to the stage to share their love of music in Sesame Street Live “Elmo Makes Music” at the San Jose Civic Auditorium. This well-crafted musical production includes nearly two dozen songs, including classics that children will love to sing along with such as “C is for Cookie” and “The Alphabet Song.” Tickets are $15 - $30. Summer is the time for California Theatre Center’s exciting and educational Summer Theatre Conservatory Program. Based in Sunnyvale, California Theatre Center (CTC) has offered its hands-on theatre Conservatories for ages 8 and up for over twenty years. By popular demand CTC now offers 2-week-long, half-day/ morning Junior Conservatories for ages 6-8. Registrations are currently being accepted at 245-2979. CTC’s regular Summer Conservatory is a three-week-long intensive workshop for young people ages 8 and up (must turn 8 by July 1, 2007) who are interested in developing and improving theatre skills. Conservatory students will work directly under the supervision of professional CTC company members to produce and act in their own production, culminating in public performances at the end of their Conservatory session. Foundation of Family Values now offers a variety of weekly parenting classes with support groups at the Campbell Community Center. Sessions include licensed therapist facilitators, some free meetings, Fathers support group, etc. For more information, session dates and course descriptions, visit http://www.fofv.org. Foundation of Family Values seeks to enhance the core values of modern families through creating innovative programs in combination with providing resources that facilitate the intellectual development of parenting ethics and responsibilities in the best interest of children. Families of all Political, Religious, Sexual Preference, Economic, and Racial Categories are supported. FFV is a 501(c)3 tax-exempt non-profit organization.

Youth Science Institute is taking registrations now for their Summer Science Camps! Designed for children ages 3 ½ to 14, there are over 35 camps to choose from. Camps include Bugology, Mighty Forest, Science Sleuths and Wild Wonders, just to name a few. Children enjoy the wonders of science and the natural world with hands-on projects, experiments, crafts, hikes and games. Camp fees range from $130 to $205 per week. Camps start the week of June 18th and run through August 17th at each of YSI’s Science and Nature Centers, located at Alum Rock Park in San Jose, Sanborn Park in Saratoga and Vasona Park in Los Gatos. Attention recently retired or semi retired men! Sons in retirement (SIRS) meets on the second Thursday of each month at the Elks Club, 444 West Alma in San Jose for lunch. Join us for good food, great speakers and the chance to meet new friends. SIRS has many activities including bowling, golf computer clubs. SIRS has no initiation fees or dues. MISCELLANEOUS

May 1 – July 28
Just in time for Mother's day-- a new exhibit, "A Garden of Lace" at the Sunnyvale Lace Museum.  The exhibit will run May 1 through July 28.  The free exhibit  features lace with intricate floral designs from the 1800's forward. Flowers have been a favorite subject for needlework designers for hundreds of years.  This special exhibit features lace edged dresses, shawls, collars, bonnets, doilies, table cloths and bedspreads. The Lace Museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and located at 552 South Murphy Avenue in Sunnyvale, CA with free parking.

May 11 – Friday
Hospice of the Valley hosts its 27th Annual Western Gala—“Eureka” –  at The Summit Center on Fourth Street in downtown San Jose. Festivities begin at 6 p.m. and are set against a stunning western-themed backdrop. The evening includes premium wine tasting, an elegant dinner, music, and a silent and live auction. Returning as Master of Ceremonies is long-time supporter Brian Adams of KLIV/KRTY radio. Funds raised will provide quality end-of-life care programs for adults, children and families facing life-limiting illnesses. Western Gala tickets: $150.00 per person. Enjoy Mother’s Day Weekend at Santana Row! The Italian Chalk-Art Festival will feature 17 world-class artists creating masterful paintings right on the streets of Santana Row. Visitors will get to vote on their favorite painting, and children will have an opportunity to participate in the creation of a Public Mural in the “Freestyle Kidzone” sponsored by Action Day Nursery. This free event takes place both days.

May 16 – Wednesday
What You Should Know Before Hiring a Contractor: Come to the Campbell Library, 77 Harrison Ave., Campbell, for a workshop presented by the California Contractors State License Board. Participants will learn how to protect themselves and their property when hiring a contractor. Find out what you need to know about payment, work, insurance, qualifications, contracts, and more. Do you love crime-scene investigation shows like “CSI” and “Law and Order”?  Then come to the Campbell Library at 7 p.m. to hear a real-life DNA Criminalist from the Santa Clara County Crime Lab talk about what their job is really like compared to the TV shows, and give an overview of some of their interesting cases.  You will also learn about the educational requirements for a career in Criminal and Forensic Science. Campbell Artists' Guild will present Sharon La Bouff with a hands-on demonstration of a papermaking process. She will display the equipment she uses & completed paper-made objects, as well as provide written papermaking instructions. Material produced may be used for sculptures, collages, & decorative arts. Free demonstration at 1 p.m. in the Campbell Library Community Room, 77 Harrison at Civic Center Drive. The public is welcome & membership is open.
