Leigh High School students Adair Beamesderfer and her brother Loryn (pictured) were among dozens of Jr. ROTC students honored at the annual Campbell Union High School District Jr. ROTC Awards ceremony held recently at Branham High School.
Adair, a senior, had risen to the level of battalion commander in charge of the 232 cadets in the five-campus program. In that capacity she was responsible for implementing policies and procedures for all the
cadets.
“She’s a great kid,” said Maj. Kelly Cross. “When you are looking for a leader you are looking for a balance of intelligence, physical fitness and ability to lead. Adair had all of those qualities. She’s a tough nut.”
Adair’s little brother Loryn, a sophomore, has been promoted to class commander.
Adair says she’s loved having her brother in the program, although Loryn admits that his sister is harder on him than his peers.
She describes the ROTC experience as “wonderful. I’ve never enjoyed participating in anything as much as this.” Adair will attend San Jose State University next year to study health science Administration.
