From the Mayor’s Desk

New businesses, summer concerts and library needs assessments top the July agenda

By Jeanette Watson, Mayor
Special to the Times

I hope you’re enjoying your summer so far. As I mentioned in last month’s article, the free Summer Concert Series kicked off on June 22 and is held every Thursday night from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. through August 17 at Orchard City Green, between City Hall and the Campbell Library.

Planning is underway already for this year’s “Carol of Lights” event in December. The Carol of Lights Committee will hold a fundraiser on Friday, July 14, from 7 p.m. -11 p.m. at Villa Ragusa in Downtown Campbell to benefit the Carol of Lights event. The fundraiser is called “Christmas in July Casino Night”. Tickets are $50 per person and are available at the Campbell Express office in Downtown Campbell. For more information, call (408) 374-9700.

I’m pleased to announce that we have some new businesses that have recently opened or will be opening soon in Campbell. They are:

Downtown Campbell:

Recently opened: Good Tastes (wine and cheese shop), Celtic Shoppe, Embellishes (home décor and accessories) and Twist Bistro.

Opening later this year: Aqui Cal Mex; Quiznos, Tigelleria, and Yoyo's (infant and maternity clothes and accessories).

Elsewhere in Campbell:

Opening soon: Bed, Bath & Beyond and the Panera Bread Co.

From national retailers to “mom and pop” businesses, think Campbell when going shopping, dining, to the movies or for purchases like major appliances, contractors, home improvement supplies, gas and business-to-business services. You’ll find competitive prices, receive great customer service and will be supporting businesses that support and enhance your community.

Spending your dollars here assists the city in continuing to provide many “invisible” daily services such as police and fire protection, recreational activities at the Community Center, maintenance of Campbell parks and other city facilities such as the historical museum, public roads, streetlights and much more.

Meanwhile, our city is currently working with a consultant in preparing a Library Needs Assessment. As part of the community input process of the project, there will be focus group and community meetings. Students, seniors, parents, and business owners are invited to participate. Two community meetings are being planned for August at the Campbell Library and Campbell Community Center. More information will be available at the city’s Web site (www.CityofCampbell.com) and Government Channel 26, or call (408) 866-2128.
