California Theatre Center (CTC) presents “The Madwoman of Chaillot “ at The Sunnyvale Theatre, 550 East Remington Drive, Sunnyvale. Holly Cornelison stars in Jean Giraudoux's classic French satirical comedy. The Sixth Annual Los Gatos Shakespeare Festival presents three plays in repertory for its 2007 season in Oak Meadow Park, Los Gatos. Opening the season is William Shakespeare’s romantic adventure story, “Pericles, Prince of Tyre”, presented in the classical storytelling style of the 1001 Arabian Nights and directed by Bruce De Les Dernier. Following will be the timeless tale of power and politics, "Julius Caesar." The season will also include the rollicking comedy “Tartuffe” by Moliere; directed by Amy Himes. The festival has a number of free events lined up this season, including a stage reading of one of next years’ productions “The Further Adventures of the Three Musketeers”; as well as our Camp Shakespeare youth conservatory class performances. Escape to another world right in San José as History San José and Happy Hollow Park & Zoo partner to offer low-cost access to two of San Jose’s most significant attractions---all inside Kelley Park. Join the Friends of Guadalupe River Park & Gardens from 10 – 11:30 a.m. for a look inside an observation hive watching bees at work – can you spot the queen? Learn how the bees make honey and sample different kinds of honey. Discover how bees communicate by performing a bee boogey. Cost is $12/members $15/non-members. Simply drive through and drop off your unwanted items, such as computers, small appliances, telephones, TV’s., etc., Please no freezers or refrigerators.

One Step Closer Therapeutic Riding, Inc (www.osctr.org) will host its first Poker Ride and Bar-B-Q fundraiser from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Calero County Park in south San Jose. The event will raise funds to further develop the therapeutic riding program of this non-profit organization. The Poker Ride is for experienced riders, ages 14 and above, and will cover several miles of equestrian trails in the hills above Calero Ranch Stables, site of One Step Closer Therapeutic Riding. Experienced riders that want to participate should call One Step Closer at 997-7264. The entry fee for riders is $35 and includes lunch. Prizes will be awarded to riders with the largest sponsorship and the riders with the best poker hands.

It’s the festival you can smell a mile away! Gilroy’s 29th annual Garlic Festival is hailed as the “ultimate summer food fair”, and once again promises three days of incredible food, beverages, arts and crafts and live entertainment. This event is held at Christmas Hill Park, 30 miles south of San Jose off Highway 101. Hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. all days. Tickets are $112 general, $6 for seniors and students ages 6 – 12 years. Children under 6 are free. Advance tickets are available online at gilroygarlicfestival.com.

Heart Walk Bowl and Action Drawing at Cambrian Bowl, 14900 Camden Avenue in San Jose. Event times are 1:30 to 4 p.m. Featured items include a drawing for over 30 items. Tickets for the Bowling are on sale now. Register today - We only have 192 spots for bowlers. Our goal is to raise $10,000 through this event to benefit the American Heart Association. We will have bowlers from Winchester Business Association (WBA), Cambrian Business Association (CBA), Almaden Business Association (ABA), and the Chamber Business Referral Networking Groups (BRN), along with many others from the San Jose Silicon Valley Chamber of Commerce. Last year this event raised over $14,000. This year it is our intent to do much more with the help of all our friends in the Chamber associations and BRN groups.
