Light Rail is coming to Campbell
By Jane Kennedy, Mayor
Special to the Times
I am happy to report that the Valley Transportation Authority’s (VTA) Light Rail service will begin on Aug. 12 as part of the Vasona Corridor Light Rail project. A dedication ceremony is scheduled for 11 a.m. that day at the new downtown Campbell Light Rail Station.
The Vasona Corridor line runs between downtown San Jose (near the Children’s Discovery Museum) and Campbell (behind St. Lucy’s Church on Winchester Boulevard). The trains will take approximately 16 minutes to travel this 6.8-mile corridor. They are scheduled to run from 7:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
There will be three light rail stations in Campbell; the Hamilton Station, downtown Campbell Station and the Winchester Station. While all of these stations will have convenient passenger drop-off areas, only the downtown Campbell and Winchester Stations will have Park-and-Ride lots available.
I had the opportunity to go on a test ride recently and was impressed by the ease of using this light rail system. It was a beautiful and smooth ride. This new expanded transportation system will provide West Valley residents with a convenient and efficient means for traveling in the area. It should be a great benefit to our residents and businesses.
