Fatality on Highway 17

Timothy Redler, 45, of Campbell died from a fatal motorcycle accident on Highway 17 at approximately 10:40 p.m. on Sept. 1. The fatality occurred near the Westfield Mall pedestrian overpass north of East Hamilton Avenue. The two right lanes were closed for about 2 1/2 hours while crews investigated the scene.

It is believed that Redler lost control of his bike and crashed. The California Highway Patrol suspects he was making some sort of unsafe maneuver when the accident happened. He was thrown off his Harley Davidson and died at the scene. He was wearing a helmet.

Anyone who witnessed the accident is asked to call Officer Martinez at (408) 467-5400.


Shoe it forward

Trailsloggers Outdoor Discovery Gear in Downtown Campbell is welcoming the community to pitch in and help the needy. They are accepting all old or unwanted shoes for donation. The donated shoes will then be given to the less fortunate through a local organization. Bring your old shoes into the store and they will handle everything else. They will also accept old or unwanted Crocs shoes for the Crocs recycling program. Trailsloggers is located at 220 E. Campbell Ave.


Flowers anyone?

Bunches Flowers of Los Gatos has opened a second store in Downtown Campbell, next to The Olive Bar. Owners, Roger and Nancy Copolillo have been in the flower business over 17 years and their Watsonville farm provides some of the fresh flowers they carry. Bunches is a full service flower shop whose designers create arrangements for any occasion, from weddings to funerals. They feature fresh cut flowers, decorative plants, dried grasses, seasonal décor, and carry specially grown decorative pumpkins, when in season. Roger says he chose Downtown Campbell because he likes “the way the town has become a great shopping destination” and felt it would be perfect for his business. Bunches Flowers is located at 234 E. Campbell Rotary Club hosts blood drive in honor of 9/11

In honor of the World Trade Center tragedy, the Campbell Rotary Club is holding their sixth annual 9/11 Memorial Blood Drive on Friday, Sept. 12, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at EMQ Children & Family Services’ Campbell campus, 251 Llewellyn Ave.  

“Blood has been in particularly short supply this summer due to vacations and the absence of the student corps of donors from high schools and universities,” said Rotary Club Past President and Drive Chairman Jerry Cummings. “We’re hoping for the same strong community support we’ve received in the past,” he added.  

The annual blood drive marks the anniversary of the 9/11 tragedy. It is held in cooperation with EMQ and the local chapter of the American Red Cross. Call Sue or Maggie at 257-2222 for an appointment.  


Recent Army grad

Army Pvt. Rachael J. Ambrozik has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. Ambrozik is the daughter of Jackie Ambrozik and is a 1992 graduate of Del Mar High School.

During nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy and justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.


Packing backpacks

The Rotary Club of Campbell packed 150 backpacks with back to school supplies of binders, notebooks, calculators, pencils and pens for Eastfield Ming Quong [EMQ] kids as part of their annual philanthropic projects. The feel-good event was held after the Rotary’s regular Tuesday meeting which they have held at EMQ’s campus on Llewellyn Ave. for the past year. “We want to make the kids feel good about going back to school and maybe make a difference in their lives,” said Rotary President John Shannon. The Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Golf Tournament has become a must attend event not only for those who love the game but for the camaraderie as well. Stone Griffin Gallery moves to a new location

Stone Griffin Gallery recently announced a new location in Downtown Campbell. They are now located at 287 E. Campbell Avenue, on the second floor of ISCS.

Under the ownership of Dana Smith, Stone Griffin Gallery is a fine art gallery specializing in California landscapes and local artists. They also feature a custom framing service that’s been framing at competitive prices for over twenty years. The gallery’s new hours are Wednesday-Sunday: 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. (open late on Friday) and on Monday-Tuesday phone (408) 374-5200 before dropping by.
