From the Mayor’s Desk

Light Rail to Campbell offers outsiders access to
the many amenities our city has to offer

Special to the Times

Last Saturday, Oct. 1, we celebrated the dedication of the Vasona Light Rail Extension in Campbell. It was a beautiful day for everyone who attended.

The new Vasona Light Rail Extension offers exciting opportunities for all of us. I was excited to celebrate the completion of the project after almost four years of construction and testing.

Not only will the new rail service benefit our city, but also San Jose and all of the other cities in the West Valley as well because the new line truly links us all together.

We are very pleased with the unique designs of each of the three Campbell stations whose aesthetic features complement their surroundings.

This is particularly true with the downtown Campbell station, which has a nostalgic railroad theme that matches the adjacent historic downtown buildings.

The new light rail extension project enables Campbell residents to have yet another easy-to-use transit option for traveling.

For visitors outside of Campbell, here are some of my reasons to ride light rail to Campbell: We have wonderful restaurants and shops here and we are proud to showcase every one of them. And on Sunday mornings, people can enjoy the best Farmers’ Market in the Bay Area – right here in downtown Campbell.

Just a couple of blocks down the street we have the Los Gatos Creek Trail, and a few blocks the other way is the recently renovated Heritage Theatre.

Our annual Oktoberfest event sponsored by the Campbell Chamber of Commerce is coming up on Oct. 15 and 16 in Downtown Campbell. It’s a fun event for everyone and a great way to experience the fall season.

So, leave the car at home and use Light Rail to and from Campbell!
