Veritas football victorious over North Bay

The Veritas Christian Academy [VCA] Lions opened their 6-man flag football season in impressive fashion with a 27 - 12 win over North Bay Christian [Marin County]. Alex Mankarios and Garrison Hardie each scored two touchdowns and Gabriel Flores passed for three leading VCA to victory in their season opener.

The Lions started the scoring on the initial drive ending in Hardie’s 17-yard touchdown reception on a pass down the right sideline from Flores. Hardie added the extra point making the score 7 – 0. North Bay responded with a scoring drive of their own, completing a three-yard touchdown pass on fourth down from Charlie Salas to Michael Ascencio to bring them within one, but they missed the extra point.

VCA’s second touchdown came on a fourth down and three play as Hardie again got behind his defender and Flores hit him in stride with a 25-yard touchdown pass. Hardie added the extra point to make the score 14 – 6 at halftime.

Gabriel Flores, Adam Flores, Alex Mankarios, Garrison Hardie and Samuel Flores played hard and won at the Veritas season opener.

Veritas opened the scoring in the second half with a run/pass option by Hardie that ended in a 54-yard touchdown pass to Mankarios, making the score 21 – 6 at the end of the third quarter. Mankarios added a 57-yard touchdown reception, this time from Flores early in the fourth quarter, which ended the scoring for Veritas. North Bay added a final touchdown late in the game on a five-yard pass from Salas to Ascencio, their second touchdown connection of the day.

“Our team executed very well on offense and defense,” said Veritas Coach Greg Hardie. “I was pleased with our players’ effort and how they handled first game jitters. North Bay is a good team, so I think this showed us that we can be competitive in the Bay Area Christian Athletic League this year.”
