Over 300 students and 250 teachers, staff and parents attended the third annual San Jose Christian School Walk- a-Thon on Oct. 7.

The school is located in Campbell at the old Dover Elementary School on Sheffeld Drive.

Enthusiastic participants walked over [a total of] 8,400 laps and raised an astounding $51,500 (net) dollars. Funds from this parent coordinated event, are slated for multi-day field trips, sports equipment, classroom and teacher ‘Wish Lists” including musical instruments and supplies.

The SJCS Walk-a-Thon is coordinated by an amazing group of volunteer parents. “It feels so great to support the school and the local community in such a fun way, on such a beautiful day” said one parent on the day of the event. Local businesses also play a major role, contributing to the silent auction, which raised over $7,000 this year.

Along with the walking, students enjoyed activities such as a pumpkin walk, a crazy hair booth and teacher drawings that allowed students to win special fun activities with the teacher of their choice. Included in the festivities was a good old fashion “Jail.” Students and parents were able to purchase tickets and then issue a warrant and put teachers and friends in jail to either serve a 5-minute sentence or recruit “bail” from other participants.

“The Jail was a huge success and we anticipate seeing that in years to come,” said Jennifer Van Muckey, Walk-a-Thon financial coordinator.

Betsy Phillips, director of Community Development said that the “Walk-a-Thon is more than a fundraiser, it is a time that allows our entire school family to work, play and have fellowship together—this time is invaluable!”
