Who do you support for the Campbell City Council? What candidates and/or propositions are you passionate about this election?
(Asked at Nob Hill Foods on Campbell Avenue)

“I like Tom Francois and what he has to say. I’m voting no on Prop 90 (eminent domain) and yes on Prop 87 (alternative fuels). I will also be voting for the bond issues for Campbell schools. It’s important to keep the schools running well and because technology grows faster than we can keep up with it we need the money to keep up with the technology in our schools. I feel good about the publicity for the Campbell Union High School District, but not as confident about the publicity for the elementary district [I wish they had done more].

“I’m more interested in the state and federal elections [than the Campbell City Council]. I don’t know the exact numbers of the propositions but I plan to vote no on the parental notification (85) and I’m planning to vote against the tobacco companies [yes on 86—excise tax on cigarettes] and against the oil companies (yes on 87—alternative energies].

“That’s a good question, I’m still mulling over the information. As for the propositions, I plan to vote for Prop 87 and against the oil companies; against Prop 90 and for Prop 84 [water quality]. I plan to vote only for the Democrats.”

Marcella Postlova, 50

Secretary at the County Hospital

“I still haven’t decided who to vote for on the Campbell City Council, I’m still studying their qualifications. I plan to vote for Schwarzenegger because I am really afraid of what Angelides would do if he got into office. I tend not to get too involved in politics. But I do plan to vote against Prop 87 and with the oil companies. I don’t want the state to impose a tax on the oil companies because I’m not sure it’s the right thing to do.”

“I don’t have a preference [for Campbell City Council]. They all are good, and I think they are doing a good job. I’d like to see them do a little more with downtown, like bring in a few new restaurants and maybe some mainframe retail stores as well; some of the older businesses would not be missed if they left. But the City Council has done an excellent job. I think we’re a half step behind Los Gatos and that’s a good place to be. I’m for Prop 87 because I definitely think we need to deal with the pollution from our poor energy [practices]. At the very least it will raise prices. I put solar energy into my house and it works very well, let’s all do our share to clean up the pollution. If Peru can use E85 gas, then we can too. We’re California and we should be leading the way. I totally support the cigarette tax—Prop 86—it will allow more people to live. Maybe they should make it $25 or $30 per pack. The cigarette industry has put $58 million into defeating this proposition. Think what would happen if they put that kind of money into health care?”

“I like Tom Francois. I am against Prop 87 because I think [the tax] would not be a good thing. I think a lot of senior citizens are living on fixed incomes and the increased gas costs would be difficult. Our pensions aren’t that good.”
