From the Mayor’s Desk
By Donald R. Burr, Mayor
Special to the Times
This will be my last article as your Mayor, and as such, I would like to say that it’s been a memorable year for me serving in this capacity. Campbell has had several key events and has seen the fruition of some key construction projects—-too many to mention here. But, here are a few things that come to my mind:
Last February, we had the gala re-opening of the Heritage Theatre, which was a great success in light of the nearly sold-out entertainment event featuring Tommy Tune and The Manhattan Rhythm Kings. The Theatre’s Second Season is well underway and continues to bring in large audiences.
Meanwhile, last spring, the remaining improvements were completed at the Campbell Community Center, which included new directional signage and monuments, new tennis and handball courts, and a new concession stand. These improvements coupled with the ones completed last year have been well received by the Center’s visitors and facility users.
Additional improvements to John D. Morgan Park were also completed this year. While the City recently finished installing new playground equipment on the Budd Avenue side at this facility last year, construction of new restrooms, picnic benches, and restrooms were completed this year on the Rincon Ave. side and are being enjoyed by many of the park’s patrons, parents and children.
Last October, many residents again participated in the “Campbell On Sale” event, aka Third Annual Garage Sale, on October 9. People appreciated the once-a-year opportunity to clean out their homes and at the same time make a little money.
In closing, I would like to thank the community for electing me to the Council for another term. I look forward to serving Campbell in the next four years as a Councilmember to preserve our City’s array of recreation activities, public safety, and capital improvements program.
I wish you and your family a joyful and safe Holiday Season.
