Chris and Carolyn Eichin had no idea what they were getting into when they restored a Virginia City, Nev. house to become a bed and breakfast inn. Three years later, countless thousands of dollars and many commute trips; the Eichins’ have opened the “B” Street House B and B. The historic house was built after the “Great Fire” of October 1875 for Henry Piper who also owned Piper’s Opera House with his brothers, which still stands down the street.

In 2006, during the restoration of the “B” Street House, the Eichins’ discovered artifacts of melted glass from the “Great Fire,” an 1876 ticket stub and a medicine bottle and called HGTV. The program will air Dec. 21 at 6:30 p.m. It chronicles the restoration of the historic home.

An artistic rendering of the E-Comm tower proposed at Campbell City Hall.

E-Comm tower project

The Planning Commission will discuss the installation of an emergency communications tower at a public hearing on Dec. 11 at which time a mitigated negative declaration and conditional use permit will be considered.

The 100-foot monopole tower allows for the development of a county-wide emergency communications network [E-Comm]. The Campbell E-Comm tower would be one of 22 antennas located throughout Santa Clara County. Establishing the E-Comm networks requires the installation of microwave dish antennas and equipment at each site. The tower would be located at Campbell City Hall at 70. N. First St. in the planted median next to the Police parking lot between two Eucalyptus trees.
